Mio Nigori Sparkling Sake (#14239)
Mio Nigori is a cloudy, lightly sparkling sake from the Sho Chiku Bai Shirakabegura Brewery in Nada, Hyogo, Japan. It is 5% alcohol by volume, comes in a 300 ml bottle, and is on the very sweet end of the sake scale, with a creamy, fruit-forward profile.
Takara suggests serving it chilled. It works on its own, with light appetizers, soft cheeses, delicate seafood, and fruit or creamy desserts, and it can be used as a base for sparkling cocktails. The low alcohol content and single-bottle size suit an aperitif or dessert pairing.
MUWA Bourbon Barrel Aged Junmai (#14242)
MUWA is brewed by Takara Sake USA in Berkeley, California. It is a junmai sake made with Calrose rice milled to 70%, then aged in bourbon barrels, which adds oak and baking-spice notes to the sake’s fruit character. It is 18% ABV and comes in a 720 ml bottle.
MUWA can be served chilled (about 50°F) or gently warmed (about 90°F), so the same bottle can serve more than one purpose on a drink list. It is an easy way to introduce whiskey and bourbon drinkers to sake. It also works as an after-dinner pour and pairs with richer dishes such as Wagyu beef or butter-poached lobster, as well as nuts, dried fruit, and mild cheeses like Manchego.
Hana Sparkling Sake: Fuji Apple (#14248) White Peach (#14249)
Hana Flavored Sparkling Sake is brewed by Takara Sake USA in Berkeley, California, and comes in 250 ml cans at 5.5% ABV. These are the sparkling, canned versions, not the still bottled Hana flavored sakes. The Fuji Apple flavor has fresh apple aromas and a creamy, lightly fizzy finish. White Peach has fresh white peach aromas with a juicy, fruity finish.
Takara recommends serving Hana chilled, on the rocks, or as a cocktail base. Single-serve cans are practical for casual dining, patio service, and quick-service menus. Takara suggests pairing Fuji Apple with salty and fried foods, cured meats, and pizza.
Matching the Lineup to Your Beverage Program
- Aperitif and dessert: Mio Nigori’s sweetness and small bottle work for a first or last pour.
- Whiskey-drinking guests and after-dinner pours: MUWA can be served chilled or warm and brings the oak and spice notes those guests already know.
- Casual, patio, and cocktail menus: Hana cans give guests a single-serve fruit-flavored option and can also be used as a cocktail base.
